Special number of 08 Sept.-25: Urgent call for the Pamoja Kwa Amani Consortium in relation to the stretched situation in Uvira in South-Kivu

PEACE CITIZEN BAROMETER AND SECURITITY EAST OF DR CONGO

Special number of 08 Sept.-25: Urgent call for the Pamoja Kwa Amani Consortium in relation to the stretched situation in Uvira in South-Kivu

The Pamoja Kwa Amani (C-PKA) consortium follows with great concern the very worrying situation that currently prevails in the city of Uvira in South Kivu.

Indeed, in challenge to the presence in this city of a general officer of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo, General Olivier Gasita, second commander of the 33rd military region in charge of operations and information, volunteers for the defense of the fatherland, called ‘’ Wazalendo ’’ as well as certain lively and social forces of Uvira have decreed dead cities to demand the authorities of Kinshasa Officer.

This situation goes beyond the simple dead cities days as we used to organize them being understood that to express their dissatisfaction the ‘’ Wazalendo ’are engaged in light and automatic weapons by night and day, unfortunately causing innocent victims among civilians.

More than five days after the start of this discontent, the situation on the ground only rises, each party encamping in its position and the risks of harsh violence are very large.

This Monday 08/09/2025 A popular demonstration has just been repressed in the blood with a provisional assessment of at least five dead and several injured. We fear the worst in this region where intercommunity temptions have always been very strong.

Faced with this situation, the Pamoja Kwa Amani consortium:

– invites the parties in conflict to de -escalation and only favor the non -violent path (dialogue) to set off their dispute;

– urges the parties in conflict, in particular the Wazalendo and General Gasita to prohibit any use of arms to solve their problem in order to spare the innocent civilians of collateral damage of any armed confrontation;

– invites the President of the Republic, supreme commander of the armed forces and moral authority of the ‘’ Wazalendo ’to intervene illico presto by taking measures which are necessary in order to quickly restore order in this part of the national territory instead of waiting to come and extinguish the fire and bury the dead: it is still possible to save the situation and to avoid the worst and to avoid the politics of the burned land;

– To the inhabitants of Uvira we beg them not to sink into community -based violence and/or facies. Favor unity in diversity as well as living together.

Together let’s build peace!

Together, Let’s Build Peace
