PAMOJA KWA AMANI COALITION PRESS RELEASE No. 04 – MONDAY, MARCH 02, 2026
“Pamoja kwa Amani welcomes U.S. sanctions and calls for absolute resolve in the withdrawal of Rwandan troops”
The Pamoja kwa Amani Coalition, a leading force in advocacy for peace, justice, and community cohesion in Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), welcomes the sanctions imposed today by the United States of America against four Rwandan officers and the Rwandan Defense Force (RDF).
For Pamoja kwa Amani, this represents a decisive step toward the truth. These sanctions confirm what our high-level advocacy has relentlessly denounced: Rwanda’s direct support for rebel groups and its active role in destabilizing Congolese sovereignty and the entire Great Lakes sub-region.
Pamoja kwa Amani views this decision as international recognition of the suffering endured by the Congolese populations of North and South Kivu for over thirty years.
Pamoja kwa Amani urges the U.S. government not to settle for symbolic measures. The United States must maintain maximum pressure until the effective and verifiable withdrawal of every Rwandan soldier from Congolese soil and the total dismantling of all armed groups, including the M23.
In the face of continued hostilities on all fronts due to the Kigali regime’s defiance of diplomatic agreements, Pamoja kwa Amani encourages the United States and the entire international community to consider all necessary means, including force, to impose peace and restore the territorial integrity of the DRC.
For Pamoja kwa Amani, these sanctions must pave the way for international judicial proceedings to ensure that those responsible for all crimes committed in Eastern DRC do not remain unpunished.
Pamoja kwa Amani reaffirms its unwavering determination to pursue its advocacy efforts with global institutions and the Trump Administration, specifically alongside its partners and the Congolese diaspora in the United States.
The Congolese people have paid the price of international silence and indifference for too long; the time for binding action has come.
“Peace is not an option; it is a right.”
For Pamoja kwa Amani,
Mr. Jean Chrysostome KIJANA, Moderator
