AFC-M23: Indecency as a Communication Tool. Pamoja kwa Amani Denounces a Mockery of Remembrance.
January 8, 2026 – The organization Pamoja kwa Amani expresses its deepest indignation regarding the so-called “homage” ceremony organized today by the AFC-M23 rebel movement. This macabre staging has only one objective: to manipulate national and international opinion in a desperate attempt to whitewash an image tarnished by years of systematic atrocities.
An Insult to the Memory of Victims
Pamoja kwa Amani wishes to remind the public that the AFC-M23 has been cited in numerous credible reports for grave crimes against civilians, including mass killings, war-time rape, child recruitment, and the forced displacement of millions. To see these same perpetrators mourn victims today is an unbearable insult to the memory of those who perished at their hands.
Cynicism as a Weapon of Propaganda
This communication stunt is a deceitful attempt to distort reality. By portraying themselves as protectors, AFC-M23 leaders hope to erase their direct responsibility for the regional destabilization and the unprecedented human suffering they continue to inflict.
“One cannot be both the arsonist and the one weeping over the ashes. This ceremony is a slap in the face of justice and human dignity.”
In response to this maneuver, Pamoja kwa Amani:
1. Strongly denounces this masquerade and refuses to allow the people’s suffering to be exploited for political gain.
2. Calls upon the international community and public opinion not to be misled by this sham of compassion.
3. Reaffirms that the only true way to honor victims is to ensure that perpetrators of war crimes, without exception, are held accountable before a court of law.
Peace will never be built on lies and manipulation. Pamoja kwa Amani remains committed to standing with the true victims to ensure that truth and justice prevail.
